Q. Why didn't I save any money at the participating local drugstore?
A. Be sure to show your card to the pharmacist before you get your prescription filled. Make sure that the pharmacy you choose is participating with CareMark.
Q. What if the Pharmacist doesn't recognize the card's name?
A. Always make inquiries in person and be sure to bring your card with you. When the pharmacist sees the CareMark Logo on the back of the card, the pharmacist then can call to get your plan information and discount.
Q. What can I expect to save with CHB membership?
A. Prices will always vary on prescription drugs and therefore it is impossible to estimate specific dollar savings through any discount drug program. CHB membership offers two avenues for drug purchases: The Neighborhood Pharmacy program offers up to 55% on generics and up to 15% on name brands. The Mail-Order Pharmacy offers up to 60% off your prescriptions. Should the pharmacy price be lower then the discount then the lower price will be charged.
Q. Do I get a discount on every single drug at the neighborhood pharmacy when I use my Membership card?
A. Not necessarily. Drug stores, like hardware and grocery stores determine their own pricing structures. Due to large discounts from manufacturers, some drugs may already be priced at or below the CareMark’s discount price. The CareMark network pharmacies have agreed to sell prescription drugs at the contract price, or their "normal retail price," whichever is lower.
Q. Some drug plans exclude certain drugs because they are expensive or not on the list. Are there any drugs that are excluded with your pharmacy program?
A. No. Unlike some competitive programs, both the Retail Pharmacy and Mail-Order Pharmacy programs are "open formulary". This means that a doctor may prescribe the most effective medication to treat a particular ailment or condition.
Q. When should members use the Mail-Order Pharmacy in lieu of the Retail Pharmacy Program?
A. More than 80% of all drugs prescribed today are long-term maintenance medications. Since people buy maintenance prescriptions in 30 to 90 day supplies, they are more likely to shop around in search of the lowest price. The mail order or online pharmacy program is designed to give a larger discount on these maintenance medications that are not needed immediately.
